What is Coronation Quiche?

“Coronation quiche” is a variation of the traditional quiche dish inspired by the flavors of coronation chicken, a classic British dish. Coronation chicken is typically made with cooked chicken, mayonnaise, curry powder, and other ingredients such as raisins and almonds.

Coronation quiche incorporates these same flavors into a quiche filling, usually by adding cooked chicken seasoned with curry powder, along with other ingredients such as mayonnaise, chutney, and possibly raisins or other dried fruits. This mixture is then combined with beaten eggs and cream or milk, poured into a pie crust, and baked until set.

The result is a savory quiche with a hint of curry flavor, reminiscent of coronation chicken. It can be served warm or cold and makes a delicious addition to brunches, picnics, or light meals.

Here’s a basic recipe for cooking a coronation quiche:

Ingredients:

For the filling:

– 2 cups cooked chicken, shredded or diced

– 1 tablespoon curry powder

– 1/2 cup mayonnaise

– 1/4 cup mango chutney

– 1/4 cup chopped almonds or cashews (optional)

– 1/4 cup raisins or sultanas (optional)

– Salt and pepper to taste

For the quiche:

– 1 pie crust, homemade or store-bought

– 4 large eggs

– 1 cup heavy cream or milk

– Salt and pepper to taste

– Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

2. In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked chicken, curry powder, mayonnaise, mango chutney, chopped nuts (if using), and raisins (if using). Stir until everything is well combined. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

3. Roll out the pie crust and line a 9-inch pie dish with it. Trim any excess dough hanging over the edges.

4. Spread the coronation chicken filling evenly over the bottom of the pie crust.

5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and heavy cream (or milk) until well combined. Season with salt and pepper.

6. Pour the egg mixture over the coronation chicken filling in the pie crust, making sure it’s evenly distributed.

7. Place the quiche in the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the filling is set and the crust is golden brown.

8. Once cooked, remove the quiche from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing.

9. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley, if desired, before serving.

10. Enjoy your coronation quiche warm or at room temperature as a delicious and flavorful meal!

Feel free to adjust the ingredients and seasonings according to your taste preferences. You can also add other ingredients such as diced vegetables or cheese to customize your coronation quiche further.
