Buzz Feed Version
This recipe details how fans have been able to emulate Carmen’s recipe. During the eighth and final episode, Carmy, or Carmen, happens to find his brother’s recipe for the famous spaghetti dish. It’s written on a notebook card, with nothing more than a few simple ingredients – basil, garlic, and canned tomatoes.
Everyday Delicious
This recipe refers to Carmen’s dish as Spaghetti Pomodoro, and uses similar ingredients as others – but does mention that the whole recipe is not shown in the show, so they take a few liberties. Cook leaves of basil, whole garlic cloves and red pepper in a pot of olive oil. Blend the olive oil with garlic and basil, and then add it directly to the sauce.
San Marzano Tomatoes “The Bear” Spaghetti
While you can use a different type of canned tomatoes for the sauce, most recipes say that using the San Marzano tomatoes makes a big difference – and this recipe is no exception. Carmen takes his sauce to another level by also cooking a whole onion halved into two in butter, and then adds in his tomatoes. This is an additional step not detailed in the note card recipe, but Carmen can be seen doing this in the episode.
